For the time being, Teach Me To Tweet is inactive, while I kill the original idea and redevelop the business behind the idea, with a whole new team. If you liked the content from Phyllis Zimbler Miller ( @ZimblerMiller) and Riley Wallace ( @SpecialDesigns), don’t despair there’s a good chance you’ll see more content from them in the future.

I’m currently collecting a new team of colleagues who are passionate about Twitter and want to contribute their unique perspective to help other Twitter newbies learn how to use Twitter effectively to succeed in any business.

Content contributors are welcome in any format – blog posts, video or podcasts. Also, there are no frequency requirements to submitting content – whether you have just one blog post on “how to” Twitter for your vertical / niche field that you’d like us to syndicate or you want to contribute a couple times a week, we’d like to promote and share your best content here and across the web.

If you love Twitter and want to help others learn Twitter and submit content for this site, send it to me for consideration. We won’t be able to include all submitted content, but for the people who submit great content, you’ll be ReTweeted on the @TeachMe2Tweet Twitter feed and your exposure here could draw a lot more audience to your site.

Twitter teachers and consultants are welcome to submit content; please keep your submission focused on contributing immediate value in your content, for people searching the web for free & immediate Twitter strategies and tactics. If readers like what you have to say and want to hire you to develop a strategy tailored to their needs or purchase your system for Tweeting automatically, they can and will click through to your site.

Advertising on Teach Me To Tweet will be available:

Free workshops and webinars will be advertised on this site at no charge

Events, courses and consultants that charge a fee can purchase advertising

WP design wizards are needed on the team (clearly, I am not tech or website design) and various other digital marketers and investors, all who are passionate about Twitter. You are professional, experienced, always deliver before deadline and are willing to commit sweat equity to earn your portion of the profits (financial and otherwise).

If you love the idea of Teach Me To Tweet and want to contribute something to this business other than content or design, let me know! I’m open to considering proposals from anyone, especially during November and December 2009.

Please contact Debbie Horovitch @Debbie_h2o if you would like to participate in Teach Me To Tweet, the website and Twitter feed to be relaunched in 2010.

In the meantime, if you’re just looking for someone who really gets Twitter to teach you or your staff how to profitably integrate Twitter into your business activities – customer service, marketing, PR or HR - send me an email at debbie @ dhptoronto.com

Tweet you soon!

Apologies for the delays folks! We are all new entrepreneurs and Teach Me To Tweet is a secondary project. Although we advertised in Just Around The Corner that you would find here the sign-up for free local workshops, we haven’t completed coordination of them just yet.

In Toronto, We are looking for location sponsors for our local workshops. If you are a local family restaurant and have one night every week that is slow, why not let us fill you to the brim with Twittering people (after the supper rush)? We’ll do all the work to promote the workshops and get people to your location, then we’ll conduct the workshop at your location. The BEST PART for you is that during each workshop we will be twittering live from your location, which will promote you on Twitter.

Anyone else in Toronto who is looking for information or help on Twitter can email Debbie Horovitch or call 416-276-8927 for immediate FREE help.

Thank you for your patience!

A partner in a major Los Angeles law firm talking about using Twitter said: I’m only interested in using Twitter if it increases my revenue.

Given his limited time and the value of that time, it’s certainly understandable that he’s looking for a good ROI (return on investment).

Here’s the answer to this statement:

Whether he increases his revenue by using Twitter is greatly determined by how effectively he uses his Twitter time.

In other words, there are people who may spend two hours a day on Twitter and get little ROI, while others may spend 10 minutes a day and get a good ROI.

What makes the difference?

•	Having clear goals for your Twitter time
•	Knowing how to use Twitter and its third-party applications effectively
•	Following a well-defined strategy for using Twitter to advance those goals

The team members here at TeachMetoTweet.com are committed to helping you use Twitter effectively in a well-defined strategy that will provide a good ROI. – P.Z.M.

TwitBacks provided me in just a few minutes with a simple water-drop background that I liked because I’ve been Debbie_h2o since 2002, when I started Moksha yoga and drinking a tonne of water! I’ll be revisiting my background as my own agency brand and logo are developed.

A lot of people really responded to my article re: Follow Friday (my favorite Twitter subject!), so I thought I’d share a neat new site I found out about related to #followfriday

Top Follow Friday is an interesting site that tracks people you ensorse and who endorses you by listing @names in #FollowFriday Tweets. A neat way to see who’s really active TODAY for #FollowFriday. Everytime you send a Tweet containing #FollowFriday, Top Follow Friday catches the information and keeps track.

I don’t know if this applies or not to Tweets containing FF, and not #FollowFriday… just in case you’re the lazy type like me.

No surprise to see @Mashable at number 12 (at the time of this post).

ADVANCED TOP FOLLOW FRIDAY: You can UN-ENDORSE people tracking on the Top Follow Friday site by sending a #FollowFriday Tweet with a minus sign before the @name. You can even mix endorsements and un-endorsements in the same #FollowFriday Tweet like this:

(yes, I un-endorsed myself but I couldn’t think of anyone else I could do that to!)

If you enjoy #FollowFriday and want to get listed, #FollowFriday @TeachMe2Tweet today!

Facebook got us loving the activity of counting our friends. It’s hard not to assume that another social networking site would be the same; now even potential employers are asking “How many Twitter followers do you have?” to judge how connected or web-savvy candidates are.

As Riley wrote in a previous post about Quality over Quantity in your network, it’s not just about getting quality folks to follow you, but who you follow too!

Twitter will limit the number of people you follow at 2,000 (until you have at least 1820 people following you back, then they limit the ratio to 1.1:1).

I found one of the best ways to increase my following (before I hit 2,000) was to follow more people. Approximately 1/2 follow me back.

Most of time I turn to my Twitter following as a resource for information, helpful links, ideas and items for client proposals and plans. So when I ask, I want to be sure I’m asking the right people – if I’ve carefully selected the people I follow, and 1/2 of those high-value potential connections begin to follow me back, then the chances I’ll get great results every time I refer to Twitter are increased.

Who do I follow?

People and Businesses that are offer similar services and products to myself:

If I have the chance to help them, we can work together.

If they help me, I will definately call them first when I have to hire a contractor.

Or they might see me as a competitor and threat, but they’ll be following me!

People in politics and NGOs that are related to my business goals and personal interests:

Be the first to know about policy changes and proceedings that may dramatically affect your business, your clients’ or your bosses’ decisions.

I also follow potential clients, co-consultants and coworkers, suppliers and vendors from all around the world (to source opportunities outside of Toronto).

So I always follow 2,000 people, because I want these selected individuals to follow me back (so they can see my Tweets, or I can DM them), and I want to stay in touch with what is important to them, right now!

Aside from the newfollow/unfollow process to exchange my following one at a time while at the 2,000 limit, I am constantly improving the quality of my network on Twitter. It keeps me up to date, with more reliable and relevant communications every day.

What will be important to the rest of my industry, when they find out later, in a week or a month or 6 months? My Twitter following tells me today. @Debbie_h2o

Click on the “following” or “followers” of @TeachMe2Tweet to find & follow many of our interesting new friends!

Your following is hoping you’ll share the interesting and relevant public internet pages you find, giving clues and insights to who online is impacting your business today (your “news stream” of important internet pages).

Sharing important internet pages builds a wealth of excellent-quality content for your Tweets, which will have more potential for ReTweets, giving your @name more exposure.

Twitter can become an easy resource for crowd sourcing - accessing the resources (knowledge and product/service offerings) of the crowd, to complement the efforts of the employee who is responsible for customizing the tactics & strategies for the brand’s unique situation:

marketing surveys

help wanted, job postings and career networking opportunities

identifying potential consultants

help on how to use Twitter

help finding almost anything specific on the web (the needle in the haystack)

help with computer software

help finding any documents on the web specific to your vertical (industry niche)

news updates from inside the pressroom, boardroom, conference hall, court room, operating room and even outer space

Ask a question and send it out to your following. If no one answers within a few hours, try sending it addressed to specific @names and ask them to ReTweet your question out to their following.

Have you crowd sourced anything on Twitter and it saved you time or money? Let us know what, and share @TeachMe2Tweet with your followers (and facebook friends who want to learn Twitter).

In March I purchased a license to the video file Twitter in Plain English – the IPE series – for inclusion in potential client presentation.
Twitter in Plain English

For me, Twitter IPE is one of the better videos I’ve seen that explains how people who limit their view of social networking to “Keeping friends up to date…” view a social networking communication tool like Twitter. This Twitter 101 video was released to YouTube March 2008, about 1 year before I found it. It gives some decent consumer advice, but really doesn’t get into free opportunities specific for small business to broadcast & promote creatively on Twitter.

I personally found this
“> Evan Williams speech from February 2009 at the (T.E.D.) conference much more helpful answering how I can get creative to use Twitter promoting myself or my business.

Last week Twitter posted their own Twitter 101 guide, which is another super-basic version of how-to Twitter. They have great success examples for more strategic uses and a comprehensive technical how-to guide.

For Teach Me To Tweet, we hope to offer a guide that weeds out the Tweet noise and provides easy to understand and helpful strategies and tactics for promoting your brand on Twitter – while avoiding scams and time wasters.

What are the most helpful Twitter How-To links that you recommend?

Share @TeachMe2Tweet with your Twitter followers who are new to Tweeting – they will appreciate it!

Here are three strategies that you can use to promote your business on Twitter:

•	Use tweetbeep.com (or a similar third-party application) to track conversations around keywords related to your business.

You’ll get an email notification from tweetbeep.com when someone uses these keywords in a tweet. Click on the username of the person sending the tweet, check out his/her profile, and then if possible send a reply to that person (public tweet) engaging in that conversation.

•	Do tweetchats on your topic to offer advice to people in real-time conversations. Consider having these at a set time each week. Use tweetchat.com (or a similar third-party application) to “host” the chats. And consider having a different expert each week to drive the chat.

•	Use twitwall.com when you have a longer announcement than 140 characters. Twitwall is a great way to announce tweetchats and give instructions for people new to tweetchats on how to participate. You can even include photos and video with your twitwall announcements.

These are only a few of the opportunities on Twitter to promote your business. As you get more comfortable with using Twitter, you’ll be able to add to your repertoire of Twitter strategies.
